I’ve actually written about Craig Colorusso’s upcoming live set on “ITDE” dozens of times now in e-mails, and a couple press releases, so forgive me this copy-paste:
“MB 89 is an attempt for me to play a continuous piece of music that spans the greater part of my life,” says Colorusso, who began the performance of MB 89 in 1997. “Unlike a composition with a discrete beginning and ending that may be played over and over, MB 89 is a composition played once, continuously; spaces between performances are to be treated as musical rests. Instead of many starts and finishes, there is constant music. Thus MB 89 is a reference point in my ever-changing life. The presentation of MB 89 has evolved into a timeless environment for people to enter and exit at will. The concept for this installation is to create a space of subtle movement where people can be part of the environment and absorb MB 89 any way they like.”
I really want you to hear this, so be sure to check it out. As always, “It’s Too Damn Early” starts at 4 a.m. CST Saturday morning. If you’re local, tune to 91.1 FM. If you’re fortunate to live somewhere outside this mess of snow and ice, try listening online. In addition to the live performance, I will be playing from works featuring Colorusso in one way or another. Feel free to call in at 618-457-3691. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
(And don’t forget, you can experience the full installation of MB 89 at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center Saturday night!)
