Looks like the stream is down again. Apparently, keeping a web connection functioning in Southern Illinois is an arcane art not yet mastered by the locals at Mayer Networks. On the upside, now WDBX has TWO broken streams– a Microsoft-licking MMS protocol for anyone doubly unlucky to love Windows Media Player AND infinite connect times– also, a url-to-nowhere .pls link for those who want a little silence with their VLC.
I got an e-mail a bit earlier from Focus Group. Due to a late start in Chicago, they’re definitely not going to be able to make it down for today’s show. If you were excited about this (and you’re local) catch them at The Swamp tomorrow night. I still have Ernesto Diaz-Infante and Mike Khoury on the phone-in bill for tonight, though– all is not lost!
I’ve been playing from some of the Mike Khoury and Ernesto Diaz-Infante albums I first heard; “Insignia,” on Public Eyesore… “Tepeu” and “Ucross Journal” from Pax Recordings.
25 minutes until the first guest!
Currently playing from Offthesky’s album, “Creek Caught Fire” on The Land Of label. I figured it would fit well with the overall laid-back feel of this particular broadcast, and I was right!
On the other hand, I don’t want everyone getting TOO comfortable. I’m shaking things up a bit with the “Ruptures” section of Stephane Roy’s triptych, “Trois petites histoires concretes” from the album “Migrations” on Empreintes Digitales.
Currently on-air with Ernesto Diaz-Infante, LIVE! I sorta blew the interview portion– sometimes, I’m just not very good on the phone. As long as you’re digging his set, I’m happy, though!
…going to try not screwing up the Mike Khoury interview portion, haha. Ernesto’s contribution this morning was lovely, I’m very happy about this, despite my lack of phone skills. Be sure to check out Pax Recordings if you’re interested in more of his work.
Whew! This interview went much more smoothly– just goes to show you how spastic I can be sometimes. A bonus… I just found out that there’re more Khoury/Hansen material online. Currently, Khoury is tearing it up with a hands-free cell mic attached directly to his violin. This is some pretty awesome stuff. Check out Entropy Stereo and Detroit Improvisation for more information.
